Dr. Barbara J. Brennan is a licensed clinical social worker. She is a graduate of Stony Brook University with a PhD in Social Welfare that focused on family dynamics and addiction. Dr. Brennan’s PhD dissertation investigated how the stigma of addiction and lack of support systems impacted individuals who had siblings with opioid abuse disorder. Her research documented significant correlations to anxiety and PTSD symptoms. Barbara also has a Masters Degree in Social Work. She has over 20-years of hospital experience in psychiatry, detoxification, and rehabilitation; specializing in trauma and crisis intervention. Her prior experience includes extensive medical case management.
Barbara has provided individual and group therapy for individuals with anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, codependency, and addiction issues. She utilizes a strength-based perspective while considering a holistic variety of techniques that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychoanalysis, and a Humanistic approach. She is passionate about her work and prides herself in fostering a non-judgmental environment. Barbara works with clients to identify issues, improve self-awareness, and gain self-esteem. She will assist clients in implementing coping mechanisms that will help make life more manageable. She is committed to helping clients create the positive changes necessary to live their best life possible.
