Mental Health and Acupuncture / Asian Medicine:

For centuries, Asian Medicine has been used and relied on to relieve pain and treat diseases of both the body and the mind.  Looking at the body in a holistic way it aims to treat each unique individual in a way that is gentle, clinically effective and drug-free.  It uses a variety of techniques such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, bodywork, essential oils, lifestyle and dietary recommendations along with energetic exercises.  As an integrative approach within the context of a mental health setting it offers a simple and comprehensive approach that directly affect the way your body manages stress and your mental health.

Benefits of using acupuncture / asian medicine during mental health treatment include:

  • Increase calmness, better sleep, and less agitation

  • Relief from stress and emotional trauma

  • Minimize the potential side effects of medications and often reduce dosage

  • Assist in an easier connection with counseling

  • A discovery of inner quiet and strength

  • Lessens or eliminates both physical symptoms and mental/emotional symptoms

  • Decreases cravings for alcohol and drugs, including nicotine

  • Allows more confidence to cope with unpleasant aspects of life and make necessary changes

  • Supports the immune and nervous systems

The use of acupuncture as part of a comprehensive mental health treatment plan provides an integrative approach to treatment in which the client can actively participate.  Acupuncture enhances the client’s sense of engagement in the treatment process and enhances retention of treatment and overall opportunities for success.
